Man vs Beast
Jaws, Jurassic Park, Planet of the Apes, have all been massive hits in the movie industry and this because we have all to some degree a fascination with the survival of humanity against major odds. Whether it be man vs beast or man vs machine or man vs nature we can all think of movies and novels that have made it big because we are intrigued at how the human race overcomes the seemingly impossible.
Whilst movies are an art form and the intrigue we as humans have with survival against all odds are an interesting discussion to engage in, that’s not the discussion we are having here. So sorry to have misled you into thinking we were about to launch into a super-deep philosophical examination of the human psyche.
Rather its the theme of beast and man in Andre Meintjes‘ artworks that got me all distracted…
Well, it’s actually “machine”, not “man” but since man creates these machines let’s just stick to the theme here shall we. If you know Andre personally or have walked into the living room of his home, one thing becomes obviously clear – the man loves machines on wheels! Especially in the form of Vintage, Antique, Classic Cars and let me not forget, Formula 1 racing cars – notably Ferrari! The passion comes out in the attention to detail in his oil paintings of these ‘beautiful beasts’….umm ‘beautiful machines’ I mean to say.
These original works painted with oils are all sold (with such quality it’s obvious) but you can commission Andre to paint you your own original artwork of choice at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or you can purchase a Limited Edition Giclée Print of one of his original works gone by.
As I marvel at these superb beasts captured in oil paints with an evidently skilled hand, I’m not clear who is the clear winner between “Man” and “Beast” with regards to Andre’s works. Having tried to fish it out of Andre with regards which subject he prefers painting I’m still not sure I have my answer. Andre loves every spare moment in the bush, especially with his camera in hand to capture these beautiful beasts in motion…Yet it is the “machines” he grew up and fell in love with from a young age.
